On 11 February 2025, one of the largest events in the field of criminal law—the 7th International Criminal Law Forum—took place in Kyiv. This was not only an important professional gathering, but also the first event of the new season organised by the "Yurydychna Praktyka" publishing house.

The Forum brought together leading experts who shared their unique experience and discussed pressing issues of criminal justice. The participants included recognised industry leaders, practicing lawyers, judges, academics, and business representatives.

Key Discussions at the Forum

During the first session, Managing Partner and attorney Yevhen Riyako spoke on a panel alongside leading legal experts: Stanislav Kravchenko, Yevhen Kruh, Serhii Podhorets, Semen Khanin, and Yevhen Hrushovets. The main topics of discussion included:

  • The challenges faced by criminal justice in 2024.
  • Recent amendments to criminal procedure legislation and their impact on judicial practice.
  • The application of the provisions of the Rome Statute in war crimes cases.
  • Specifics of examining documentary evidence in court proceedings.
  • Holding lawyers accountable for unjustified disruptions of court hearings.
  • Challenges for business and expected legal changes in 2025.
  • Emerging practice in plea-bargaining agreements.

In a panel format, experts discussed the changes likely to shape the legal landscape in 2025. Issues concerning the effectiveness of criminal justice, legislative reform, and international law enforcement standards remain at the heart of the professional community's focus.
